2009 Season Draw Finalised
The Senior AFL North Coast Executive have finalised and approved the draw for the 2009 season.
It is an exciting draw with new initiatives that will include:
- A reduction to 15 rounds, as agreed on unanimously by all clubs;
- A split round to start the season, with the Grand Final Replay being played on Anzac Day;
- An Under 18s Interleague Clash being played at the BCU Stadium (against the strong Black Diamond League), as well as the clash between North Coffs and Coffs Swans;
- Also at BCU Stadium, is the Senior Representative Clash on the June Long Weekend vs South Coast that took out Division 3 in the Regional Championships at Wagga Wagga;
- Round 11 being Call to Arms Awareness Round- to raise awareness of cancer in men;
- Grand Final being played on Saturday 5th September.
It is an equitable draw that aimed to take into account the circumstances and wishes of all clubs.
It was a good precidament that the AFL North Coast was in demand for a number of representative fixtures. We were only able to cram two matches in, as the League were unable to fit in a match against a Black Diamond Under 24 Representative Squad.
The 2009 draw is a promoter's dream and one that is sure to help build the profile of the game.
