Young talent gets taste of big smoke

Northern Heat Reps on Fire

10 of the Coffs Coasts Under 15 and 16 AFL players joined 326 of the State's best players recently at the NSW State U16 Selection Trials at St. Ignatius Riverview in Sydney. Our players represented Northern Heat which comprises players from the North Coast, Newcastle, Central Coast, Central West and North West and played teams from Sydney, Riverina and Canberra.

The Under 15s won 2 games losing the other 2 by narrow margins of 2 and 14 points.

The Under 16s lost their first 3 games before recording a 10 point victory in their last game.

This is a creditable effort given the opposition came from much stronger AFL areas.

As well as matches the players were involved fitness testing,  a number of evening sessions on areas such as training techniques and diet as well as receiving feedback on their play through video replays.

All players are in involved in the Talented Player Program which aims to ultimately to provide a career path to high achievers through to the AFL.

Photos show the local players who participated in the carnival.

Representatives were Under 15s - Patrick Gillingham, Angus Burkitt (Sawtell), Nick Bailey, Brendan Norton, Nathan Harris (North Coffs),.

Under 16s: Levis Sands (Northern Beaches), Blake Brissett (Sawtell), Aaron Boatfield, Jack Campbell, Jason Robson (North Coffs).
