Following the recent AFL NSW/ACT Under 15 & 16 State Zone Trials, 5 Northern Heat players have been added to the Talent Academy.
The trials were held to select the NSW/ACT Rams State side to compete in the NAB AFL Under 16 National Championships. Players who came under strong notice for selection but narrowly missed out have been added to the Academy to receive further development.
The Academy focuses on individual player development and their potential to become elite footballers.

- Decision Making
- Leadership
- Self awareness
Locally, the squad will be coached by Sam Dawes in Coffs Harbour. Sam himself has been involved in the talented player pathway participating in the AFLâs Under 18 TAC Cup & VFL competitions. Sam was the Best & Fairest in the North Coast AFL in 2008.
Players added to the Academy are:
Under 15
Nick Bailey (North Coffs)- 2nd year player who at 195 cm looks a great tall prospect who is improving his football dramatically
Brendan Norton (North Coffs)- a key position player who has impressed coaches with his hard work and willingness to learn
Alex Stack (Mid North Coast)- quick aboriginal player with great foot skills and good goal sense
Nathan Harris (North Coffs) - talented forward/ midfielder with nice skills and a noted goal-kicker
Under 16
Jack Campbell (North Coffs)- superfit, hardworking midfielder who has shown dramatic improvement in his 2nd year of AFL football.
These additions take the Northern NSW Academy to 8 players. They join Cruz Hastings (Sawtell), Paddy Gillingham (Sawtell) and Damien Attwood (Coffs Swans) who joined the Academy earlier in the year.
The Academy will complete 8 training sessions during the May- August period before attending a Camp with all Academy members from around the state in November.
