FLAMES U14 GIRLS HEADED TO GOSFORD!!
Our two Flames Under 14 Division 1 WABL teams headed to the WA Basketball Centre on Sunday February 1st, to attempt to be one of the clubs to represent WA at their respective 2015 Basketball Australia U14 Club Championships which will be held in September.
The boys, coached by newly appointed Flames Development Officer Taylor Land, had the tougher of the two Pools and although they only won 1 out of their 4 pool games, were still able to qualify for the 2 v 3 playoff versus Cockburn, to determine who would be the club to lock in the final of four Touring spots in the Boys division. (WA have four boys spots allocated to them this year as we are hosting the U14 National Club Championships at the WA Basketball Centre in September. The norm is usually each state aside from the host state, is allocated three teams to represent them) Despite their best efforts in the playoff game, the Boys unfortunately were unable to get the win over the Cougars, but were praised for the efforts throughout the Carnival.
The girls, coached by Annette Jorgensen, had a fantastic Carnival only losing one game, to the Perry Lakes Hawks by 4 points, and subsequently finished SECOND overall, to be one of the TOP THREE teams qualifying for the Girls Under 14 National Club Championships which will be held in Gosford, NSW in September. It will be the second year in a row that the club has had a Girls Touring team and signify's the outstanding work that the club is doing in our younger age groups to consistently have teams competing for WABL Grand Finals & Touring Spots.
As can be expected for such a big trip east, the Girls will be doing a large amount of fundraising over the coming months, so please support the girls in their efforts and if you or someone you know would be interested in sponsoring the Team in their trip to Gosford, please do not hesitate to contact the club on the details below.
