Suns Women looking good heading towards the Finals...

With Round 18 of the Basketball NSW State Basketball League now done and dusted, the dominance of the Greenhouse Tavern Suns Women has become more apparent.

After 10 rounds they sit on top of the competition ladder with 10 wins from 10 games after they accounted for third placed Newcastle last weekend.

The Queanbeyan Yowies, who have been a strong force in this league in recent years sit in second. Their 10 wins from 11 games includes their defeat by the Suns in a central venue round earlier this year.

Rounding out the top four is Wagga with 6 wins from 11 games so far played.

The strong showing of the Suns can be seen in the for and against percentages.
The Suns are the state's best scorers 796 points for the season - well ahead of second placed Queanbeyan on 692.
The margin is all the more dramatic since the Yowies have played one more game than the Suns in the season so far.

Good scorers, tough defenders - that's the Greenhouse Tavern Suns' trademark!.

Not content with leading the scoring, they are also the toughest defenders, conceding just 461 points for the season to date, to the 542 for Queanbeyan and 520 for third placed Newcastle.

In further good news for the Suns, their offence is featuring a one-two punch.

Guard Ashley Buis is the second leading scorer across the whole state, in this league over the season to date, averaging more than 20 points per game.

Only two places further down the rankings, is Suns forward Laura Bamford averaging more than 15 points per game for the season so far.

Fans present at the Suns home game over the weekend will know that Jessie Reeves is a powerful third offensive threat in the line-up.

The story for the Greenhouse Tavern Suns men in season 2014 is not so encouraging.

Their weeekend loss to Newcastle has sliped them to 5th position in their pool with a place in the finals all but impossible.

The bright news is that US Import Jerard Ajami, despite the modest place of the Suns, is the 10th leading scorer in a league which consists of 22 teams from Sydney and New South Wales country north south and west.
