Greenhouse Tavern Suns State league Women continue on their winning way...

The Greenhouse Tavern Suns State League Women travelled to Tamworth last weekend for their penultimate "away" game before the State League Finals series.

Our photo shows the victorious Suns after the Tamworth game L to R: Rachel McGinniskin, Jasmine Host, Laura Bamford, Jessie Reeves, Kate Harland, Emily Malouf and Ashley Buis.

The Suns women kept their undefeated record intact with an 81 to 55 victory with a wide spread of points among the team.

Leading the way again, was US import Ashely Buis with 22 points, but she was well supported by Laura Bamford (19) and Jessi Reeves (16).

Emily Malouf stepped up well as the team's guard, giving plenty of assists and also bagging 10 points.

Kate Harland as well as playing the off-guard, took on coaching duties after family matters prevented regular coach Connie Woods from travelling up the mountain.

Rachel McGinniskin did a great job as the Suns centre and Jasmine Host looked well at home in the Suns line-up.

Team Manager Sharon Reeves described last weekend's game as a strong boost leading into next weekend's Central Venue weekend in Newcastle where they will play southern teams Goulburn and Queanbeyan.

Two Women's State League Banners already hang in Sportz Central following the Suns' victories in 2011 and 2013 and the 2014 Greenhouse Tavern Suns are in the best possible position to make it three.

They sit on top of the competition, one win ahead of Queanbeyan with an impressive for-and-against record, averaging almost 80 points a game for a season tally of 877 and yet conceding just over 45 points per game - a total of 514 points scored against them in 11 games.

Greenhouse Tavern Suns guard Ashley Buis sits in second place in the league, on points per game with more than 20 per outing, but leads the league against all players in the number of points for the season with 225 from 11 games.

Our home grown talent, Laura Bamford also continues to figure in the shooting table; scoring better the 15 points across her 11 games for a season tally of 173 - fourth in the league.

Coffs Harbour can certainly be proud of the 2014 achievements of the Greenhouse Tavern Suns State League women and also of having 2 Suns in the top 5 scorers in the league.

The Greenhouse Tavern Suns State League women travel this weekend to Newcastle with the best wishes of the association.

There was no change in the status of the Greenhouse Tavern State League Men last weekend - they sit in 5th place in their league and US Import Jerard Ajami continues to feature in the top 10 shooters, now slipping to 9th spot after last weekend's rounds.
