Coaches pleased with tip-off of Spring Program

Head coaches Connie Woods and Ashley Markham and members of the representative committee were delighted with the roll-up for the first week of the CHBA Spring High Intensity Program (HIP).

More than 50 players in the U16 and U18 categories were present for the first week of the program with several apologies also tendered.

Head Coach Connie Wood commented: "This is remarkable, considering that the sweat has hardly dried on the 2014 rep. season. The fact that so many young players are turning up is a strong endorsement of the six week program we have put together and also of our proposals for the 2015 rep. season."

"We booked two courts for the program this week, but we will now try to expand across 4 courts because of the strong response to the program."  Woods added.

CHBA's HIP has a double aim, firstly to assist the many CHBA players who it is anticipated will make themselves available for the BNSW Country Cup team selections later this month and secondly to help our players tune up their skills and work on their fitness in readiness for the selection of 2015 CHBA Suns teams.

CHBA Board member Leisa Mihai has complemented coaches Woods and Markham in putting together an impressive program which features both fitness sessions and skill development. "With such a large group of players, it can be a challenge to create sessions where the players are getting a high intensity workout." said Mihai. "Connie and Ashley have done a great job in identifying the talent pool and then forming groups in which the players working in each group will be competing with players of similar skill and experience."

CHBA domestic and rep. coaches have been invited to be participants and observers at the HIP.

Newly apppointed Sportz Central Manager Andrew HEATHER, who has high level playing experience was on hand last Tuesday to assist in the program and is keen to be a continuing part of the sessions.

If any coaches missed last week's session and would like to be part of the HIP, please make contact with Connie or Ashley either in person or via our office by phone or email.

Younger Age Groups Not Forgotten.

While the U16's and U18's commenced their Spring Program last week, our U12's, U14's and anyone else who is considering "dipping their toes" in the rep. program in 2015, have not been forgotten.

The Spring Development Program targetted at these age groups, gets underway on October 7th but the association is receiving nominations for that program right now.

Forms are available on the website under the "Suns Reps" tab, from our office, of via your competition supervisor.

Prior enrollment is recommended to allow us to secure sufficient courts and recruit enough coaches to make the sessions worthwhile.

CHBA welcomes coaches wanting to improve their basketball and coaching knowledge to work in the Spring Development Program as
assistant and station coaches and in the process, learn from some of the best coaches in Coffs Harbour.

CHBA Rep. Program in 2015

Board Members Naomi Markham and Leisa Mihai, speaking on behalf of the Rep. Committee have announced the intentions of the CHBA for the 2015 season.

"It is our intention to field a full complement of (separate) teams in both NJL (Northern Junior League) and CPL (Country Premier League) next year." said Markham. "Of course our ability to do so will depend on having sufficient players but with such a healthy turn-up at our High Intensity Spring Program and already strong intetrest in our Spring Development Program, we are confident we will be able to do so."

Markham and Mihai last week announced a recent and important change to the CHBA Rep. Regulations.
CHBA, by decision of the board have removed a former restriction which forced players who came back to Coffs Harbour from other associations to only try out for our second division teams.
This rule no longer applies.

CHBA General Manager Steve Smith said in making the announcement; "CHBA acknowledges that players move between associations for different reasons and the association has decided to amend our regulations to make it easier for those who wish to return, to do so.  When we offer a program that is of high quality, this will retain players in the future"

For more information about the CHBA representative program, speak to Board members Leisa Mihai or Naomi Markham, email the program at rep@coffsharbourbasketball.com.au or contact our office on Ph 6651 1452 (Tuesday to Friday 9.00 am to 6.00 pm).
