What can happen when you don't play by the rules...

The year is not over, so we should not speak too soon.

O
n the other hand with semi-finals and finals approaching some players may be tempted to push that little bit harder and in the process, step over the line of acceptable behaviour.

We've been 'banging on' for a while now about playing, coaching and spectating basketball in the appropriate way.

We don't seem to have "cut through" with everyone as so far this year three players have been suspended for a cumulative 45 weeks from competition.

That's 45 weeks without playing basketball, 45 weeks without coaching basketball, 45 weeks without sitting with your mates on the team bench and 45 weeks without being able to warm-up with the team.

It might be saying something about their approach to the game, but all three supsended players are men.
Thanks girls!

After their latest meeting, the CHBA (volunteer) tribunal panel, asked the General Manager to give more prominence to the penalties which await players who misbehave.

The schedule of offences and penalties can be found under the "resources" tab on our website, but to save you looking here are some of the highlights (lowlights).

Punching (another player) = 52 weeks. If its an official - it could be life!

Tripping or attempting to trip 10 weeks (if a player) or 52 weeks for attempting to trip an official.
Offensive Language 10 weeks (and 20 weeks).

The list goes on...

The easiest solution is to play for fun and remember 'ITS JUST A GAME'.

Three players suspened this year is already too many. We don't want any more.

We'd all be happy if we never had to hold another tribunal - but you the players, coaches and supporters are the ones who will make that decision for us.

Enjoy your game and try to make sure others enjoy theirs also!
