Crossfit take out the main prize in GHT A grade Men's Grand Final.

Crossfit Park Beach have shown themselves one of the teams to beat during the Greenhouse Tavern(GHT) A grade men's competition this season and asserted their supremacy with a 47 to 33 victory over Emerald Beach Pasta & Pizza in last night's grand final.

Crossfit narrowly finished on top of the GHT men's A grade points table with a regular season, 10 wins, four losses and a draw from their 15 games. Three wins further back on the table were the grand final opponents Emerald Beach Pasta & Pizza, but in disposing of second placed 2K14 in last week's semi the Emerald boys left no one in any doubt that they were after the big prize.

Emerald play with trademark 'passion and enthusiasm' and in trying to pull off a G/F victory over Crossfit they left nothing on the sideline.
The aggressive style of the Emerald boys is not to the liking of all of their opponents and the referees last night had their work cut out allowiing the game to flow while keeping contact at an acceptable levels.
A 14 to 3 first quarter jump from Crossfit meant that the Emerald team had a lot of catching up to do to stay in the race.
During the second period, Emerald outscored Crossfit and therefore gave themselves a chance at redemption when they went into half time down 17 to 22.

The third period was a dour affair with tough defence from both sides only allowing 13 points to be scored from both sides.

Some impressive 3 point shooting from both teams in the final period resulted in a combined 28 points with Crossfit, (16 points) leading the way.

Adrian Schmidt from Crossfit was an imposing offensive and defensive presence and was judged toe MVP of the finals.

Following the Grand Final, men's teams retired to the Greenhouse Tavern for some fluid replacement and the presentation of awards.
Crossfit picked up a $150 food and drink voucher for their victory while the second placed Emerald Beach secured a $50 voucher for their efforts.

The A Reserve men's grand final was no less entertaning, with third placed Ball Na Na's taking on minor premiers Studs n Ribs. The Studs had only tasted defeat 2 times in the 15 game season while the Na Na's had a less impressive 9 win, 6 loss season up to semi-final stage.
They overcame Coffs Freight in a youth v/s experience semi-final last week and certainly let the Studs know they had come to play on grand final night.
A 13 points to 9 first quarter by the Na Na's sent out a wake up call to the Studs who turned the tables in an extremely low scoring second period - the Studs sinking 7 points to the Na Na's zip.
The third period was an evenly contested and defensive effort, Studs recording a 1 point advantage (Studs 8, Na Na's 7)and the minor premiers followed that up with a 12 to 7 final period to run out 34 to 27 winners. The match officials judged Mattision Devine from the Studs the MVP in this game, but unfortunately he was not present at the after-game function to collect his award.

The B grade men's grand final featured the top two teams from the regular season in Lambassadors (12 wins, 1 loss, 2 draws) and Tropics (8 wins, 7 losses) and the grand final went with the form guide.
Tropics might have thought they were in with a show when they held the narrowest of leads 9 to 8 at the end of the first quarter, but from then on Lambassadors showed why they had been the competition front runners by outscoring their opponents in the other 3 quarters to claim G/F victory with a 40 to 34 final scoreline. Tristan Brindle from Lamabassadors picked up the MVP award in this grade.

For a few moments at half time some controversy about teams uniforms threatened to detract from the basketball being played in the B Reserve men's grand final. However some brief discussion with GM Steve Smith soon levelled the playing field and the teams went back on in the second half to let their basketball do the talking.
New School Ballers, last week scored the biggest upset of our finals season when they overcame minor premiers Lumberjacks in the first versus fourth semi.
It was pretty clear that they had come to the grand final hoping to give North Coffs Skips a taste of the same medicine.
The first period looked as if we were in for a scorcher of a game, as both teams were locked at 11 points.
The Skips got the better of the game in the second period with a 15 to 7 scoring run and followed that up with a 16 to 4 third period.
The fourth period was by comparison a more even if low scoring session, only 15 points between both teams. North Coffs Skips claimed the G/F with a 59 to 40 final scoreline.
Scott Woods
from the Skips was judged the MVP in the final.

The last of our grand finals was the C grade men featuring JB Hiflyers against the Wolves.
JB Hiflyers had every reason to be confident going into the last game of the season, they had not been pipped all year.
However the Wolves got the better of them in the game that mattered, recording a 35 to 29 victory to claim the winner's prize. James Woods from the Wolves claimed the MVP award.
