The Melton Toyota Riddell District Football & Netball League, in conjunction with award sponsor Dome Security, are pleased to announce the nominations for the Steve Turner Medal - RDFNL Dome Rising Gun Award for Round 14 of the 2016 RDFNL season.
Steve Turner is a name synonymous with junior football in the north/western metropolitan areas. Steve is a Life Member of the Riddell District FNL who has held many roles within the league, including a stint as Football Operations Manager and on the RDFNL Board. In 2016, Steve once again sits on the RDFNL Board.
Round 14 - Blake Laverie
Blake joined the Hawks this year after crossing from Avondale Heights in the Essendon District Football League. He played Under 18.5s and Seniors last season.
A former junior at Woodend, Blake joined his brother Trent this year and has been an outstanding asset in the Seniors and Under 18.5s for the brown and gold.
Known for his flashy green boots, dangerous right foot, handy goal sense and impact in the midfield, Blake was recognised for his three goal effort against Macedon early in the year with selection in the Senior Interleague Squad that competed against Alberton at Inverloch.
Blake more than held his own against bigger opponents and was a fine contributor on the day.
Blake is a feature in the Hawk's best week in, week out whether he plays one or two games each day. His onfield leadership is remarkable for such a young player.
Blake played 12 Senior games and kicked eight goals this year.
To be eligible for the Steve Turner Medal, players must be under 23 years of age, and have played less than 15 senior games prior to the start of the 2016 season. Players must have played junior or Under 18.5 football in the RDFNL, and have made themselves available for selection in RDFNL Interleague Programs. Macedon's Jason Cooke won the award last year.
