Last night at Taylors Lakes Reception Centre the RDFL hosted its “night of nights” with approximately 350 people in attendance to witness Diggers Rest on baller Cameron Woods win the Percy Bowen Medal as well as Broadford’s Centre Sarah Douglas take out the Jannine Ryan Medal.
The RDFL celebrated the 2012 home and away season in style with special guests comedian Des Dowling and AFL Legend Rodney Eade in attendance. Many league sponsors and special guests were on hand to witness a number of individual and club awarded for their stellar seasons.

Ben captained the Under 18 interleague side in 2012 in their match with the Ballarat FL. His performance through the middle of the ground and up forward and the leadership he showed in the contest was rewarded with the Karman Medal.

John had a fantastic season holding down a key position role in the Roos line up. His hard attack on the ball and ability to impact the contest has made him an eye catching player in 2012.
Jack Wilson – Diggers Rest
Jack has had a fantastic season for the Burra. A key player through the midfield, Jack featured in the Burras best players 15 times during the season.

Dylan had a fantastic season in the midfield for the Burra in their return to the Under 18 competition. Despite a difficult season on the field, Dylan played a big role in ensuring the Burra were competitive every week
Michael Marrett – Kilmore
Michael captained the Kilmore Under 18’s to the finals series in 2012 and showed excellent leadership and courage through the midfield over the course of the season, also playing several senior games on the same day.

Chris made a sizeable impact in his return to football in 2012. He played 14 games for the Burra Reserves booting 77 goals for the season, including a bag of 10 and a bag of 12.
Winner of the Scarborough Medal: Rhys Hannan – Diggers Rest
Rhys has played a big role in the midfield this year for the Burras charge toward a grand final berth. He played every game in 2012 and finished the season with a flurry, named in the best players in 5 of the last 6 games.

New Award – “Unsung Hero” of the RDFL in Honour of Charlie Watson.
The 2012 and inaugural winner of this award is Rob Beatson.
He dedicates his time & energy to assist the young footballers of the league, to try and make them better footballers and young men and his commitment, dedication and passion for the RDFL is a reflection of spirit Charlie Watson his displayed over many years for this league.
B Grade Netball Medal Vote Count
B Grade Runner Up: Tracey Kay – Romsey
One of the best defenders across all grades in the competition, Tracey’s never say die attitude makes her a crowd and umpires favourite. Has been instrumental in Romsey’s finals campaign and is a team and club leader.
B Grade Best & Fairest Winner: Kila Elavo – Sunbury Kangaroos
An absolute superstar of her club, Kila has dominated B grade this year with her accurate goaling and incredible elevation. A natural athelete, Kila is a pleasure to watch.

A stand out player for the Burras.

Mathew finished the year with 102 goals, his achievement is more remarkable considering the conditions faced in 2012, he finished 52 goals clear of his nearest rival and his biggest bag of the year of 15 goals came in the Round 3 match against Lancefield. Mathew had 3 bags of 10 goals for the year in the regular season and in the first week of finals kicked 14 goals in the clubs win over Melton Centrals.

A lightening quick midcourter who is not only a brilliant defender, but also a extremely accurate feeder. Has an uncanny knack of reading the play and has been instumental in securing her team a finals birth. A deserving winner.

Runner Up and 2012 Matthews Medallist: Tierone Cuffe (Sunbury Kangaroos)
Tie was the 2011 Steve Turner Medallist and continued his good form in the Kangaroos midfield. Although small in stature, Tie has quickly made a name for himself as a courageous rover who can win both contested ball and outside ball.
Winner of the 2012 Bowen Medal: Cameron Woods (Diggers Rest)
Cameron came across to Diggers Rest at the start of 2012 from Craigeburn in the EDFL and quickly established himself as one of the premier midfielders in the competition. His ability to bust open a pack and run and carry the football has quickly made him many fans of the way he plays his football. Congratulations Cameron on winning the 2012 Bowen Medal.
