The Melton Toyota Riddell District Football & Netball League, in conjunction with award sponsor Dome Security, are pleased to announce the nominations for the Steve Turner Medal - RDFNL Dome Rising Gun Award for Rounds 6 & 7 of the 2013 RDFNL season.
Steve Turner is a name synonymous with junior football in the north/western metropolitan areas. Steve is a Life Member of the Riddell District FNL who has held many roles within the league, including a stint as Football Operations Manager and on the RDFNL Board. In 2013, Steve has returned to the RDFNL Board as well as taking up a team manager's role with the Western Jets in the TAC Cup.
The Round 6 nomination is Alex Shipard from the Woodend-Hesket Football Netball Club. Alex has played all six senior games for the Hawks this year, as well as two games in the Buffalo Sports Under 18.5 competition. Alex has been nominated in Woodend-Hesket's best players in four of his six senior games. and represented the Riddell District FNL in their senior Interleague win over the Kyabram & District FNL in the week following his nomination.
The Round 7 nomination is Jake Young from the Sunbury Kangaroos. Jake has played in five of the Kangaroos' senior matches in 2013, after playing three senior games in 2011 and one in 2012 whilist being eligible to play Under 18.5 football. Jake was named amongst the Kangaroos top three players in their win over Lancefield last weekend.
To be eligible for the Steve Turner Medal, players must be under 23 years of age, and have played less that 15 senior games prior to the start of the 2013 season. Players must have played junior or Under 18.5 football in the RDFNL, and have made themselves available for selection in RDFNL Interleague Programs. The 2012 Steve Turner Medal - RDFNL Dome Rising Gun Award was won by Kayne Murphy from the Sunbury Kangaroos.
