Macedon had the fright off its life when it just managed to overcome rivals Woodend/Hesket by 13-points to retain the Bill Tunn Cup at Tony Clarke Reserve on Saturday.
A six-minute scintillating spell from midfielder/forward Jason Cooke turned the game on its head for the Cats to come from behind in the last term and secure victory.
Woodend/Hesket ventured to Tony Clarke in hope of returning the Cup to the Gilbert Gordon Oval for the first time since 2008.
With coach Ross Sleight out of the term and Liam Bianco making his debut, the Hawks lacked that bit of experience up forward.
Blustery conditions greeted players and it proved a headache early with turnovers from both teams.
Cat Matt Knox continued on his good form from the previous week with a goal into the breeze in the opening minute.
Both teams traded goals, the last to Macedon from a free kick and 50 metre penalty to Tom Waters just before the siren. The Hawks let themselves down with five forward 50 entries directed at debutant Bianco, who was under tremendous pressure.
