By Riddell Umpires Media Manager Samuel Lucardie
This week we celebrate the significant milestone of one of Riddell Umpires most highly respected stalwarts, Graeme "Carts" Carter who will officiate his 1000th RDFNL game (including 324 Senior games) this weekend. Graeme, a true gentleman of the game, commenced umpiring in 1989 and has been a fixture between the big sticks for nearly three decades.
Graeme has given his heart and soul to umpiring and is to be admired for his integrity, humbleness, professionalism, dedication, commitment, enthusiasm and preparedness to contribute to assisting, advising and mentoring new umpires. Graeme’s words of advice and encouragement are always greatly appreciated.
Highlights of Graeme’s career include a number of Grand Finals, but he would be just as enthusiastic about umpiring a junior game such is his love of football and umpiring.
Riddell Umpires wishes to congratulate Graeme on his outstanding achievements, and hope he continues to umpire for years to come.
Graeme joins RDFNL President and Riddell Umpires Total Games record holder, Alan "Ollie" Matthews* (nearly 1350 total games and continuing to increase), brothers Ian and Robert Semmens* and John Weston* as a member of the exclusive Riddell Umpires 1000 total games club, truly remarkable achievements by these fine umpires, who are still actively umpiring on a weekly basis.
Whilst looking at records it’s important to acknowledge the efforts of Senior Games Record Holder/ Assistant Boundary coach Eric Garwood* who has accumulated 621 Senior Games (closing in on 900 total games) and who continues to patrol the boundary week after week, running with, supporting and encouraging our next generation of umpires, tireless, hardworking Assistant Goal Coach/Association historian and statistician Bruce Pizaro* (951 total games), female games record holder Lita Cooney* who officiates her 600 total game this weekend. Troy Cusack*, who whilst still in his twenties, has officiated 770 total games and if he continues to umpire at his current rate will one day possibly surpass whatever games record mark "Ollie" sets, but then again "Ollie" is looking as young, fit and enthusiastic as ever!! "Ollie just keeps on keeping on!".
Congratulations to Tim Rath who umpired his 550 total game last weekend.
*Indicates still umpiring.
