Diggers Rest starts season on right note
The Riddell District Football League grand final rematch was no thriller, with Diggers Rest again proving too strong for Riddell.
Both sides fielded very different line-ups from those of last season’s decider, won by Diggers Rest in extra time.
On Saturday the Burras led by 21 points at quarter-time.
Both sides scored 1.1 in a more even second quarter, but four goals to none in the third, opened up the Burras’ lead to 44 points.
Heavy rain and strong winds wreaked havoc in the final quarter. Neither side could do much with the ball in poor visibility and the lights needed to be turned on.

Diggers Rest's class steps up
Diggers Rest put on a strong first-up performance against a new-look Riddell team to start the Riddell District Netball League A-grade season.
Facing last year’s premiers, the Burras didn’t know what the Bombers line-up was like, but anticipated a tough match.
The Burras got the jump early to lead the Bombers by six goals at quarter-time.
That lead was extended to 10 goals at the main break, pushed to 12 goals at three-quarter time, and was 14 goals at the final whistle, with the Burras winning 47-33.
