Around the Grounds - Round 14

Chris Yeend

Macedon has taken the honours as the top feline in the competition after a hard-fought eight-point win over Lancefield at the muddy Tony Clarke Reserve on Saturday. There was plenty of water and mud all over the ground, making the ball heavy and goal-kicking difficult. The Tigers led by less than a kick at half-time thanks to the boot of John Baker and hard efforts from Noa Tevita. James Wright brought the Cats right back into the contest with impressive running and long kicking helping to set up five goals in the third term to break away to a four-point lead. Mark Strickland was strong up forward for the home side as he kicked two goals and took some strong marks. The last quarter was a genuine hard slog as the conditions became increasingly difficult underfoot. Macedon eventually held on to win by eight points in a goalless last term.
Woodend Hesket almost pinched the unthinkable against the Sunbury Kangaroos. In testing conditions, the Hawks trailed by 11 points at three-quarter-time before getting to within a point on the siren. Chris Meacham was out of action for the Roos who were led by Dan Gregory at half-back and Kane Bishop. Max Ambler and Matt Sawyer were simply too good all over the ground for the Hawks.
Col Laurie kicked five goals and Brent Tuckey kicked two as Diggers Rest defeated Riddell in an epic battle at home. The Burras broke away to a three-goal lead at quarter-time before both teams went goal-for-goal in a great match. Nathan Allen was best for the Bombers.
Matt Coomans was best for Broadford who had five multiple goal-scorers in a 54-point over Rockbank. Scott Bell kicked three goals for the Rams.
Chris Kellett was again the best for Melton Central who defeated Kilmore by 53 points at the J J Clancy Reserve. Zac Treacy was best for the winners.
GAME RELOCATION
The big Round 15 clash between Woodend/Hesket and Broadford has been moved to the Kyneton Showgrounds from the Gilbert Gordon Oval this Saturday. The times of all netball and football games will remain the same.
