Riddell District Football Netball League is excited to announce the appointment of its interleague netball coaches for 2017.
RDFNL hosts West Gippsland on Saturday, May 13.
Reigning Ryan medal winner, 2016 RDFNL coach of the year and Macedon A Grade coach Ciara Stewart will coach the Senior team and Michelle Rix will coach the Under 17s.
AFL Goldfields Netball Manager Kim Bailey says that the coaching selection structure has changed this year with the appointment of last year's RDFNL netball coach of the year.
"She (Ciara) has a great coaching background," Bailey says.
" (In her) first year in the RDFNL last year, she coached her team to a Grand Final. We're really excited to have Ciara on board."
"We have not gone with this approach before, and she may even be a playing coach, we're not sure."
“We have a great coach and I’m confident that we can win.”
Positions in the team will be offered to the girls who were awarded selection in the Team of the Year last year for those that are still in the competition. Ciara was named as Wing Attack in that squad
Rix continues her work in junior development and will thrive as Under 17s coach.
"She has had a good track record with the (Under) 17s and (Under) 19s in the past," Bailey says.
"She is with the zone academy this year and she'll bring good knowledge to the girls."
Bailey highlights the experience of Rix as a coach as the key to her selection. She is good with kids and is determined to develop the youth coming through the competition.
Rix is at Lancefield this year after spending time at Riddell.
"She's passionate and she loves the RDFNL," Bailey says.
RDFNL is eager to get back on the winner's list after losing to Alberton in both matches last year.
