AFL Tasmania is thrilled that 6 of the State’s young talented players have been picked up in the National Draft announced in Brisbane last night, clearly highlighting the strength of AFL football in Tasmania.
Kade Kolodjashnij became the State’s highest AFL draft selection in 17 years.
Kade from (Launceston) is joined by his twin brother Jake, Toby Nankervis (North Launceston), Alex Pearce (Devonport), Brady Grey (Burnie) and Ben Brown (ex-Glenorchy and Devonport).
This represents Tasmania’s best performance at the National Draft since 1996.
AFL Tasmania’s Leadership Team, on congratulating the players drafted, also acknowledged the dedication and commitment of AFL staff members who work tirelessly to make sure our young Tasmanian’s get the opportunity to be ‘the best they can be’. All draftees have come through school and junior football pathways then into AFL Tasmania’s state academy programs and the Tasmanian State League – demonstrating the effectiveness of the pathway AFL Tasmania can provide to the ‘big time’.
The northern concentration of ‘picks’ is pleasing given the recent Griffith University research identified that the south of Tasmania has led the country per capita in selections over the past decade.
