North Queensland over-45s coach Trevor Brook will not mind if summer arrives early for at least the first two matches of his side's campaign in the AFL Masters National Carnival in Cairns.
The tournament, which officially opened last night at Cazalys, runs until next Thursday and has attracted 44 teams in five age groups from across Australia.
The North Queensland over-45s plays its first match against Vic Metro at Watsons Oval today, before backing up against Vic Country on Monday.
Brook hopes the mercury makes life uncomfortable for the southerners in both games.
"The Victorian teams might find the weather a bit much if it gets really hot because it has been a bit cold down there lately," he said.
"We've got a good side. We've got blokes from the Carpentaria, Townsville and Mackay having a run and we should be quite competitive.
"But it's one of those things. You never really know how you're going to go until you get out there."
Brook, who plans to start himself at centre half-forward, is not worried about where his side finishes on the carnival ladder.
"It's about having fun," he said.
"Every win will be a bonus for us."
"Like I said, I think we'll be competitive and we should be able to sneak a few wins.
"But if we don't I'm not going to be too concerned."
