Stinger's over 35s campaign at the AFL National Masters Carnival has ended with a 29 point defeat to Vic Country at Cazalys.
Heading into yesterday's game, the Stingers were still a chance of winning their age division if they beat Vic Country and other results went their way today.
But the equation proved too much for the home side.
Vic Country led by 18 points at halftime and repelled a third quarter surge from the Stingers before going on to win 8.7-5 to 3.8-26.
Stingers coach Rick Hanlon said his side did well to remain in the contest as long as it did.
"We just ran out of legs. We were pretty tired at the end of it," he said.
"We missed a couple of early shots but they played reall well the Vics. They worked the ball really well away from the contests while we were a bit ragged in that area."
Despite his team missing top spot, Hanlon was proud of his players' achievements.
"It's been a real privilege to be involved in it. I thought it's been a great carnival."
