AFL Cairns Women’s League kicks off this weekend (Saturday, 2nd May 2015) to start their 15 round season. There will be five (5) Clubs competing in the 2015 Season; North Cairns, Manunda Hawks, Centrals TB, South Cairns and Pyramid Power.
Each club will play each other three times throughout the season and the competition will feature general byes for Queen’s Birthday (Saturday 6th June 2015) and the July Term 2 school holidays, which coincides with AFL Cairns Premiership Match, where no football will be scheduled.
Round 1 will see a double header played at Cazalys Stadium to align with the 2015 AFL QLD School Sport U16 Girls Championship, an event AFL Cairns are delighted to be hosting in conjunction with Peninsula School Sport. The U16 State Championship showcases the best female youth AFL players from all across Queensland. This is a fantastic opportunity for our region. Round 1 see’s the following matches:

5:00pm – Manunda Hawks vs. Pyramid Power
6:30pm – South Cairns vs. Centrals TB
BYE: North Cairns
The 2014 Grand Final replay between North Cairns and Manunda Hawks will take place in Round 2 under lights at Cazalys Stadium. Undoubtedly the Hawks will be eager to make amends for last years close loss and have been training hard during the preseason to be match ready come the start of their 2015 campaign.
Each club plays multiple curtain raisers prior to their affiliated senior clubs in 2015, with South Cairns electing to play two curtain closers against Centrals TB and North Cairns in Rounds 6 & 15 respectively, following AFL Cairns Senior matches at Fretwell Park.
Three matches will be taken out to Pyramid Power’s Maher Rd precinct to align with the clubs junior participants on a Sunday. Round 2, 6 and 9 against Centrals TB, Manunda Hawks and North Cairns respectively, which will see the Gordonvale club play host to ‘Super Sunday's’ of football, with Juniors from 9am and Women's League closing out the day.
Round 14 see’s Manunda Hawks take on South Cairns at Griffiths Park as the curtain raiser to the Cairns Saints vs. Cairns City Lions men fixture. The neutral ground provides an exhibition style match for the code.
Throughout the year, AFLCW will also play on several Friday nights in conjunction with AFL Cairns Juniors Cazalys Colts Competition at various venues - Fretwell Park, Cazalys Stadium and Crathern Park.
The 2015 season culminates with a top-four finals series at Cazalys Stadium in September, with Preliminary Final Day and Grand Final Day held alongside AFL Cairns Seniors and Reserves finals.
