YEPPOON VS BITS
The match of the round sees BITS having to travel up the road to face a Yeppoon side oozing with confidence after a come from behind win against Glenmore last week. This will be the biggest test for the Saints so far this season and the Swans will be confident of causing an upset given they pushed them all the way to a respectable loss in the season opener.
The Swans defence has been super impressive this year and they will have to continue their dogged form if they are to stick with BITS. The undersize Yeppoon defence will have to find ways to bring the ball to ground against the bigger Saints forwards. If Yeppoon can create enough contests in the air and bring the ball to ground, then the likes of Sam Nicholls and Matt Wallin will rebound providing Yeppoon with scoring opportunities on the turnover. As always Yeppoon will look to Dan Watkin and Wes Hawke to provide the present up forward with the Swans, but they will find it difficult against the likes of Adam Dickenson and Paul Cavney.
Expect a tight contest up until 3/4 time, with BITS experience players helping them get over the line.
Prediction: BITS by 27 points
GLADSTONE VS BROTHERS
We are not even half way through the season, but this game looms as being super important for both teams. With the round 1 clash between Gladstone and Brothers abandoned because of ground availability, neither team will not know much about the opposition. Both sides have had stuttering starts to the season and only have 1 win each, but a win here will not only skip them a game clear of the other side and cement their spot in the top 4, but more importantly will have their season back on track.
Gladstone will be confident after an away win against Panthers last week, but Brothers appear to also be building confidence and getting back to the structures and disciplines that had them as the dominate team last year. Mudcrabs will need to put another 4 quarter effort in if they are to match it with the Roos, and Brothers will have to make sure they respect the younger Gladstone players.
Looms as an intriguing contest and is screaming out for someone to step-up and lead their side to victory. Could it be Daniel Clay or Cameron O'Grady, or could it be the veteran Scott Smithwick or David Scott. Time will tell.
Prediction: Brothers by 3 points
PANTHERS VS GLENMORE
The final game of the round will see Panthers at home to Glenmore and what a good battle this one should be. Both sides were in winning positions last week but didn't capitalise on their chances and had bad final quarter fade outs, so they will be keen to not repeat that. Glenmore believe they are serious contenders for the top 2 so will be keen to put a dominate display on against the Panthers. Panthers on the other hand, have certainly improved over the last couple of weeks and have shown that they will not be easy beats as most of us thought they would be.
Panthers may not be a highly skilled side but their effort and willingness to keep persisting cannot be questioned. Panthers will have to harass Glenmore for the full 120 minutes if they are to be a chance and nullify the younger of the Payne brothers, while Glenmore will be looking for another quick start and dominate game from Derek Mangan up forward.
Expect another hotly contested game with Glenmore's forwards just getting the better of Panthers defence.
Prediction: Glenmore by 21 points
