Senior Mentor Leaves the Nest

After guiding the Diamond Valley Senior Men’s program through a tough transition period in the past 18 months, Head Coach and mentor Andy Sherwell has decided to leave theDiamond Valley club and pursue other interests next year.

Andy has guided the men’s program through a very tough period after previous Head Coach Steve Smith resigned before the end of the 2011 season for personal reasons. Andy came in and added stability and reignited the program over the next 18 months and was responsible for some very good results during his time at the club.

A respected coach in his own right due to his association with various Dandenong teams including the current WNBL Champions as an assist coach, the style of play, passion for his team and the respect from all at the club is what Andy will be remembered for in his brief but productive stay at the Eagles nest

Director of Coaching, Alan McAughtry – “ It is always hard when a person of Andy’s ability leaves a club, his ability to motivate and educate his players and coaches is second to none. I have known Andy for many years during our battles during our junior coaching days and he is a class act on and off the floor.

His start to this season was indicative of his impact how ever with all sports, injuries and luck play a huge roll in the outcome and Andy had his fair share of bad luck and injuries to key players.

Andy will have many opportunities that will see him progress with his coaching, I am certain of that. There are things that as coaches we want to be in place and as a club we are striving to reach that. We could not give Andy what he needed at this point in time but totally understand and support him in his decision “

The club wishes Andy all the best in his future coaching and will always be a welcomed figure back at the Eagles nest.

We are now sourcing a replacement for Andy, they will be hard shoes to fill.
