With a few departures this year for various reasons we have looked to the junior program for the next up & coming VYLW players to show their hands. With that we welcome Ivona Bandalovski, Georgia Tyrrell, Casey Scullin & the late inclusion of Grace Collette.

Along with the new faces of Zoe Tudor & Georgia Orr plus the very welcome return of Nikki Drost we have put together what we think will be a competitive group of ladies that want to play for each other & do their utmost best for DV. We have played only the one practice match against Coburg Div 2 women’s side that were the reigning Big V champions from last yr & although we got beaten were not worried about the result as we were just giving the group a run to see what we had re positions & who could stand up when asked as our preseason has been disrupted so taking this into consideration & knowing what we know about the group & what we have are not in the slightest bit worried.

We will train hard this week with another practice match this coming weekend against a DIV 1 womens team & see if we can improve in the areas we know we need to work on. We are looking forward to the seasons start on March the 10th & hope that as a group goes we grow & get better every week to make a run for the finals.

State Championship Men- Warren Esctort

We have played four practice games so far: Melbourne CM, Sherbrooke CM, Werribee CM, State U/18 Men. We are just coming off 4 games and a practice session in the last eight days and the boys have done very well. (4-0)

We will have a new player coming down to training this week, Johnny KLOESTER - he is from Bulleen, tried out at

Frankston SEABL with Al and was let go last week. He is about 6-4, a reasonable athlete and can shoot it.

We have established a defensive identity and a willingness on offense to pass the ball to the open man.

Everyone has been playing well and contributing at both ends.

 Around the league:

BULLEEN - picked up Adrien STURT. Will also have two imports and an imposing front line, 6-8, 6-10, 6-10, 6-7.

HUME - two imports plus Bennie LEWIS from Tigers NBL, also KANSAK from DV.

RINGWOOD - two imports plus an NBL player yet to be named.

CORIO BAY - Last years MVP (import), plus Maalo HICKS from Nunawading SEABL (6-8 athlete) and also Liam NORTON from Eltham.

WAVERLEY - Ivan PLATNIK returns plus Karl BESTON from Eltham. Also have ARKELL and BONGETTI from DV. James TODD (ex NBL squad member Gold Coast) Seadle THREAT and Simon BLENNERHASSETT

ELTHAM - lost most of their squad but looking to get an NBL player and an import.

SHERBROOKE - 2 x imports, PG and a 6-7 small forward plus a couple from Kilsyth SEABL, david MOORE, Tim MULHALL and a 6-10 kid.

WERRIBEE - local kids from last year plus looking to get an NBL player

MELBOURNE - young team (all under 22) but will be getting some big kids back from College in May.

As you can see, the league is the toughest its ever been - so we have our work cut out for us.

The Big V season kicks off with the Pre- Season Tournament @ Frankston where the Youth League Women and Youth League Men play round 1 of the season.

The first home game tips off here at Diamond Valley on Saturday March 16th where our Senior Championship Women and Senior Championship Men take on local rivalry, the Eltham Wildcats.
