SENIOR MEN DEFEAT BRONCOS

The DV Championship Men won their 10th game of the season on Sunday afternoon at the DV nest with a comprehensive 113-71 win over the Hume City Broncos.  A big thanks to our Team of the week, the Under 10 St Mary's Boys!

Nathan Truman hit his first five shots for the Eagles, including four triples, as they raced out to a 14-4 lead. The Broncos hit back but the Eagles managed to take out a narrow 25-19 lead at quarter time.

In the second quarter it was all one way traffic as the Eagles constant ball pressure and frenetic offense led to lay up after lay up as they simply ran the Broncos off the court to take a 52-31 lead at the half whilst shooting 50% from the floor.

In the third quarter the scores were tied at 25-25 as the Eagles maintained their 21 point advantage.

In the fourth quarter the Eagles poured on 35 points at 72% from the floor on 15/21 FG’S to outscore the Broncos by 21 points who could only manage 14 points to go with 12 turnovers for the quarter.

The Eagles shot 55 % from the floor for the game and 63% on 2 pt FG and also forced 37 turnovers from the Broncos.

Nathan Truman led all scorers with 27 points on 11/19 FG and 5/10 triples. Matt Fennell had 22 points and 12 rebounds, Mitch Lee 15 points on 6/8 FG, Luke Valentine 14 points on 6/9 shooting and Neal Haining contributed 8 points and 8 rebounds. Every player scored for the Eagles who played a brilliant, team orientated, uptempo game and executed their defensive game plan to perfection, rendering imports Jermaine Maybank (12 pts on 4/14 shooting, 8 turnovers) and Jamal Brown (7 points, 9 rebounds) virtually useless. Three other Hume players also recorded at least seven turnovers each (KANASK, CARR and PRENDERGAST)

The Eagles take on the leader leading Bulleen Boomers this week at the Templestowe Leisure Centre on Saturday night.
