NBL1 Eagles Signs Liam Thomas for 2019

Diamond Valley Basketball Association are pleased to announce the signing of Liam Thomas to the Men’s NBL1 Eagles team for 2019. Standing at an incredible 7ft tall, the big man will be ready to create plenty of problems for oppositions throughout the season.

Liam grew up in the suburbs of Sydney, Australia, and in his mid-teens, moved to Central Private School in Louisiana to finish his high school in the U.S & to take the next step in his development. He helped CPS to its first ever Mississippi Association of Independent Schools title, averaging 14 points, 10.5 rebounds and a staggering 9.1 blocks per game in his senior year.

He also had a stellar College career at Nicholls State University, becoming a standout defensive player in the NCAA. In his senior year, he led the NCAA in blocked shots, earning a Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Year award. Incredibly, he averaged 4.2 blocks over 31 games; with one particular game having a triple double with 14 points, 13 rebounds & 10 blocks.

Recently, he was invited by the Sydney Kings for the 2018-19 season as a development player for Andrew Gaze’ squad.

“We cannot wait for Liam to land in this league and showcase his talents in 2019,” Head Coach Grant Wallace stated. “His length, rim protection and speed up and down the floor will pose many issues for oppositions to contend with at both ends.”

This year, our Eagles Senior Teams will be competing against some of the best clubs in Australia, with Basketball Victoria announcing the new NBL1 League in 2019. Liam will be an ambassador for Power Basketball, building on the strong connections between the Junior and Senior programs.
