Alan McAughtry is the DVBA’s Championship Team Mentor

We are very excited to announce Alan McAughtry’s new position within the DVBA as Championship Team Mentor!

In his new role, Alan will provide focused mentoring to our championship level coaches and teams to ensure the success and development of both our senior programs and VJBL championship level teams.

With his extensive knowledge and experience, Alan’s role with consist of supporting and mentoring championship team coaches during trainings and games, and analyzing team and athlete performance. He will provide coaches and teams with recommendations for improvement through training drills, and offensive and defensive strategies that can be applied to games.

“I am looking forward to taking on the role as a Championship Team and Coach mentor within DVBA. It gives me the chance to provide a more detailed working relationship with the coaches and athletes within the program, with a view to pass on the knowledge and information I have been privileged to gain from working within the National and State programs and the International coaches I have worked with. For coaches wanting to gain knowledge on film breakdown, an early introduction to scouting, training and game strategy and on court athlete development, I feel this is the next phase for many of our DVBA coaches.”

To ensure the continuous improvement of these programs, Alan will conduct quarterly coaches’ reviews and monthly team reports within the championship level. This will provide the DVBA with further opportunity to advance the senior and VJBL programs and make changes to further develop the pathway from junior to senior basketball.

“Transitioning from coaching to mentor is something I had never really discussed in length as I always felt it was just coaching, however the demands on athletes and coaches at club level can be extreme in some cases and if this helps with the development of any coach or athlete within the DVBA then I am more than happy to be involved.”

Along with Alan’s change in role, the DVBA will be appointing Coaches Coordinators to both the U12/14 and U16/18 age groups. The Coaching Coordinators will focus on working with teams at games and training sessions on a rotational basis, to ensure coaches have constant support and the opportunity to upskill throughout the season. The two coordinators will provide the DVBA with a direct link to each age group and will allow for a greater understanding of our Eagles’ players’ abilities.

“Alan is a great asset to Diamond Valley, and this new position gives our senior and VJBL Championship team’s greater opportunity to succeed this season. This, along with our new Coaching Coordinator roles, will see Diamond Valley providing a greater support network for all of our coaches and teams, and will help to cement us as one of the leading associations in Victoria.” – Braden Cotter (Interim CEO)

Alan is an integral part of the association and we are very excited for his next chapter here at Diamond Valley!
