Laurimar Thunder's tale of courage

Unfortunately, from time to time a difficult situation forces the DVBA community to come together and provide a helping hand for those in need.

Earlier this year over the Easter Break, Steven Ribarich who is involved with the Laurimar Thunder was left a quadriplegic after a freak wave turned him upside down in a rough Gunnamatta Surf. Just moments before the father of three had saved his son from a rip when tragedy struck.

Thankfully on the day a group of off duty lifeguards where present and witnessed the situation unfold, enabling them to save Stevens life and get him back to the safety of the shore.

As a result, Steven now has very limited movement in his upper body and very slight movement in his toes. However, Steven has launched into his rehabilitation full throttle determine to restore as much movement in his body as he can. The progress Steven has made so far has been inspiring, it wasn’t all that long ago when he was teaching himself how to breath all over again.

In what one would see as such a tough situation Steven has been incredibly selfless, devoting his time towards thanking the people that were on hand to save his life that fateful day as well as raising awareness of the important service that our surf life savers provide.

However as altruistic as Steve and his family have been, without a doubt they are more than deserving of our support as this is going to be an ongoing battle best fought in the power in numbers!

A GoFundMe account has been set up for anyone who would like to donate to Steven and his family, the cost of Stevens rehabilitation is mind blowing and your donation will allow Steven to maintain a strong focus on his health and his family.

Every cent counts towards a family that will appreciate it more than you ever image.
