Ezi Magbegor Joins the Eagles

In a huge coup for the Diamond Valley Basketball Association, we are pleased to announce northern local Ezi Magbegor as the newest Eagle to join the flock.

If you don’t know who Ezi is, you soon will. Ezi made her international debut at the 2015 FIBA Under-19 World Championships in Russia, with the U19 Gems at the age of 16 where the team won a bronze medal. She then represented the U17 Sapphires at the 2015 Oceania Championships. Dominating the tournament, she averaged 18 points per game and helped Australia take home Gold. In 2016 she then lead the Sapphires to their inaugural World Championship title in Spain. After snapping team USA's 28-game win streak at U17 level, Australia went on to take home Gold. Alongside two of her team mates, Magbegor was named in the All-Tournament Team and in addition to this, she received The World’s Most Valuable Player award. On top of all of this, in 2017 she represented Australia again at the U19’s World Championships in Udine, Italy coming in 6th place.

Ezi has spent 3 years on scholarship at the Centre of Excellence in Canberra and is currently a part of the Canberra Capitals WBNL team. Last Saturday she posted 20 points and 4 rebounds shooting at a whopping 75% against the Bendigo Spirit.

“I’m really looking forward to coming home and playing for Diamond Valley. I’ve had the privilege of being coached by Zoe before so I know she is going to push me as well as help me become a better player.” Magbegor said.

Head Coach of the SEABL women Zoe Carr is ecstatic about the signing.

“Having a player of Ezi’s caliber join the Eagles is fantastic.” Carr said. “Not only is she one of the most exciting players to watch, she is a great person to be around. The benefit that our junior domestic and junior representative players are going out get out of watching her play, is invaluable.”

Be sure to come and support Ezi and the rest of the SEABL Eagles in April when the season kicks off.
