Bree Whatman Becomes an Eagle

To win one SEABL Championship is special. To win 2 is extraordinary. To win 3 is almost unheard of, and to win 4 is ridiculous! But this is exactly what the Diamond Valley SEABL women’s newest signing Bree Whatman has accomplished.

Growing up in Beaconsfield Victoria, Bree started her career at the Dandenong Rangers and rose through the ranks in a very competitive environment. She was known to be a talented scorer with a very high basketball IQ. In 2013 she accepted a scholarship to North Dakota State University as a freshman in the NCAA division 1 in the Summit League.

Since then, Whatman has been a part of the WNBL Dandenong Rangers development program and won 4 SEABL Championships while being a highly respected and feared name in the SEABL landscape. In the 2017 season Bree averaged 7.5 points per game, 1.5 rebounds per game and 1.2 assists per game with her best game coming in round 7 against the Albury/Wodonga Bandits, where she netted 22 points at 5 from 9 from the three-point line.

Now the experienced point guard is flying to the nest.

“I’m so excited to be making the move across to Diamond Valley. I’m looking forward to new opportunities and challenges with a great coaching staff and team, and in particular, being a part of the first Women’s SEABL team for Diamond Valley.” Whatman said.

Head coach of the SEABL women, Zoe Carr, is thrilled with what Whatman will bring to the group.

“It’s a massive coup for our club to have someone like Bree represent the DVBA. She is a fantastic leader with a wealth of experience. We are very lucky to have her.” Carr said.

Be sure to come and support Bree and the rest of the SEABL Eagles in April when the season kicks off.
