Maddison Rocci Becomes An Eagle For 2018!

It is with great pleasure that the Diamond Valley Basketball Association announce the signing of Maddison Rocci for SEABL 2018.

Hailing from Melbourne’s outer west, Maddie started her junior career with the Werribee Devils and sped through the Basketball Victoria pathway, being included in both the NITP and NPP programs. In 2013, the speedy point guard was selected to represent Victoria Metro in the U16 State Team. This was repeated 4 more times between U18’s and U20’s, with her teams coming away with 4 gold medals.

Maddie’s goal was always to represent Australia, and in 2014, her dreams came true when she was selected in the U17 Australian Sapphires team. The World Championships were held in Czech Republic where the Sapphires placed 5th in the tournament.

In 2016, Maddie was awarded with a scholarship to the Basketball Australia Centre of Excellence (formally known as the Australian Institute of Sport) alongside fellow Eagle, Ezi Magbegor. Maddie flourished in the professional environment and in the same year, was selected for the U19 Australian Gems team that competed in the Oceania Championships in Fiji. The Gems took home the gold and gained qualification to the World Championships in 2017. Once again, the point guard would don the green and gold with the Gems at the U19 World Championships in Italy. The Gems placed 6th and Maddie herself had a great tournament until injury reared its ugly head, forcing her to the sidelines.

2017 also saw Maddie join the Canberra Capitals for her debut in the WNBL. After a great season, Maddie was the runner up in the WNBL Rookie of the Year Award votes.

Now Maddie is looking to continue her improvement and excel with the Eagles.

“I am excited and looking forward to being part of the Diamond Valley Basketball Family as it moves into a new era of SEABL.” Rocci said. “I have had the privilege of having been coached by Zoe in the past. I have a lot of respect for her as a coach and I am confident with the team of players Zoe has assembled, we are going to give the Eagles fans a lot to cheer for.”

Head Coach of the SEABL women Zoe Carr is excited about the signing.

“I am absolutely wrapped that Maddie has chosen the Eagles for SEABL in 2018. She is a fast paced, exciting player to watch who has an amazing ability to score. Plus, she’s a tough little nugget! The DVBA community will love having her around the association.” Carr said.
