Welcome back Chevannah Paalvast

This week we welcome Chev to our SEABL Womens team for this Sunday's game against Dandenong Rangers, we caught up Chev to share her experience at the recent Commonwealth Games representing New Zealand.

What was the lead up like to the games? From selection camp to pre-tournament trainings etc.?

Selection camp is always really tough because there is a bunch of really good basketball players competing for the 12 spots available on the team. This makes it very intense and everyone wants to give their best, so that's always a very challenging process.

Having played in Australia for a while, in the WNBL and various leagues, what was it like going up against the Opals and players you know so well? In particular, Ezi?

We always knew it would be challenging playing one of the top 5 teams in the world. They're extremely talented at all positions and play very well together. It was awesome playing against Ezi, an amazing player and teammate with huge things ahead of her. She's such a lovely person, she even pushed me (maybe accidentally) while we were playing each other and apologised mid game haha. But definitely prefer her on my team than as an opponent.

How did you feel the week went personally for you? Were there any goals you set out that you were able to achieve?

Personally, the games were actually very tough for me. I went into them with a lack of confidence and had to find a better mindset throughout the games, which I did eventually with the help of my teammates and coach. The main goal was to prove everybody wrong and get a medal. We were one of the lowest ranked teams there, so to be an underdog with a medal is a great feeling.

What are you feelings heading into your first game as an Eagle this weekend? Especially your first home game.

EXCITED!!! I love playing with these girls and we have so much potential. I can't wait to play in front of our home crowd and show them what we can do together.
