Men’s NBL1 Eagles Assistant Coaches for 2019

As preparation for the new 2019 Eagles NBL1 season gets underway, it is with great pleasure to announce that Marcus Todd and Christopher Steele will be the Men’s NBL1 Assistant Coaches for 2019!

A Greenhills & Diamond Valley stalwart, Marcus provided passion, accountability and a great support to the players last year, in our first year entering the competition in 2018.

Marcus is involved in all aspects of the club, as he coaches in our domestic competition, our junior representative program and again in our senior program. His experience as a senior player allows him to guide the younger players when stepping up into elite competition.

“It is fantastic to have Marcus return to the team for another season”; Director of Coaching Alan McAughtry stated. “He continually shows the commitment and passion and is involved in so many aspects of the club. Marcus wants the best for the club and works very hard to develop each player he coaches. It is pleasing for Grant and our team to have the continuity for another season.”

Former NBL & SEABL player, Christopher Steele, will also be joining Grant Wallace and Marcus Todd to form the coaching staff for the 2019 Eagles NBL1 season. Originally from NSW, he played in the NBL with both Newcastle & Illawarra from 1987 – 1994, followed up with a 4-year stint with the Kilsyth Cobras from 1995 – 1998.

Chris has been involved in the Victorian coaching system since 1995, and has recently moved from Warrandyte in the Big V, where he was Head Coach of the Youth League men from 2016 – 2017.

“Having seen Chris for the first time this pre-season, the thing that stands out is his passion and love to teach the playing group; Alan McAughtry explained. “He is organized and has a synergy with Grant at this early stage of the preparation. I would like to welcome Chris to the Eagles and look forward to seeing the team and staff progress into the new season.”

Mens NBL1 Eagles Head Coach, Grant Wallace:

"Coaching is made easier when you have good people in support of you! My staff in 2019 is led by the best Team Manager in the business in Shelley Reynolds.  She is organised and looks after the boys like they are her own. And has just returned from another gold medal looking after the Victorian Under 20 men.  Then my two assistant coaches in 2019 both have outstanding basketball IQ, were excellent players in their day and are wonderful people.  Both are committed to making our players better and understand what it takes to succeed."
