(MENS) Diamond Valley Eagles vs Ringwood Hawks

A strong second quarter guided Diamond Valley to an 81-74 victory over Ringwood.

The Eagles led for a majority of the day as their defence had a stranglehold on the Hawks. Their pressure forced the Hawks to shoot 34% from the floor and only 12% from three-point range.

Captain Benjamin Allen led from the front for the Eagles with 18 points and eight rebounds, while Logan Hovey had 16 points and four rebounds. Matthew Fennell, Jacob Gibson and Adrian Sturt were relied upon to keep the Hawks in the game as the trio combined for 54 points.

The two teams were difficult to separate in the first quarter as Diamond Valley held a slender one-point lead. The lead grew in the second term as they went on a 31-20 run to lead by 12 points at half time.

Ringwood cut the margin to eight points in the third term to give the Hawks momentum heading into the final term. Ringwood continued to edge into the Eagles lead and came within five points midway through the quarter.

But that would be as close as they would come as the Eagles recorded just their second win of the season.

 

(Womens) Diamond Valley Eagles vs Ringwood Hawks

A fourth quarter surge gave Ringwood a 93-84 victory over Diamond Valley at the DV Sports & Fitness Centre.

In a gruelling affair, which saw the lead change hands on countless occasions, the Hawks outscored the Eagles 27-19 in the final term to edge past their rivals. Prior to the final term run, both teams were difficult to separate in the see-sawing contest.

Ringwood led by one-point at quarter-time, a margin they would hold at the end of the second and third quarters as well. Both teams were strong on the backcourt and accumulated 53 and 49 rebounds respectably. They were also even in assists (18-15) and blocks (4-3), but it was steals (12-4) where the Hawks had the ascendency.

Antonia Farnworth was instrumental in the win, ending the game with 32 points, 11 rebounds and three assists, while teammate Cassidy Mihalko had 22 points and six rebounds. Anneli Maley, Hope Terdich and Shelby Cheslek all finished the game with 16 points, as the Eagles spread their scoring more evenly.

The win was Ringwood’s fifth for the season and keeps them in the top four, while Diamond Valley remain on one win.
