Diamond Valley Youth League making a run for finals

Both of our Youth League teams have a very strong chance at making it to finals this season, with our round 11 results seeing our Greensborough Plaza Youth League Women sitting in fifth place and our Thornbury Car Care Youth League Men sitting comfortably in fourth.

Both teams have given it their all this season, and as they have settled in and found their groove the results on the scoreboard have shown just how talented our youth players are.

Thornbury Car Care Eagles Youth Men:

Round 11 saw Diamond Valley defeat Kilsyth and Waverly, adding another two wins to their tally and bumping them up to 4th place.

In Saturday’s game at Kilsyth Sports Centre, Diamond Valley defeated the Cobras 86 – 75. Joshua Tomasi put in a big shift for the Cobras with 25 points and 15 rebounds, although he was bested by Aidan Zeverona’s 20 points, eight assists and eight steals. Ben Barlow’s 16 points, 3 steals, and nine rebounds also assisted in cementing the Eagles’ win.

On Sunday, our Men’s team led by as many as 26 points during their victory over the Falcons, the final score being 71 – 60. Aidan Zeverona was dominant in the passing lanes once again, picking up 10 steals to take his weekend tally to 18. Matthew Baggio was our top scorer, with 18 points.

Head Coach, Braden Cotter, had great things to say about the teams efforts in the lead up to finals; “Having so many players back from injuries has had a major influence on our game. As a team we have made a commitment to defense and I believe that is what will help carry us through to finals. The under 18 boy’s have had a massive impact on the intensity of our training sessions and have helped to lift the energy of the team on and off the court.”

Round 11 saw our Eagles Women win another game, beating the Southern Sabres 73 – 68. Ivana Vasiljevic dominated the court, with 13 points, 12 rebounds and 5 steals, and Jade Dunne was our top scorer for the game with 14 points.
