2013 Awards

HAWKES BAY BASKETBALL AGE GROUP AWARDS

The 2013 Basketball Hawkes Bay age group basketball player and referee awards ceremony was hosted at Basketball Hawkes Bay’s new Head Quarters at Whitmore Park on Saturday 21 September.

The awards recognised performance over the past 12 months of teams and individuals playing and refereeing at National Tournaments and competitions.

Former Tall Blacks and HBS Bank Hawks coach Tab Baldwin presented the awards after addressing the group and challenging players to take responsibility for their own development and be “the best that they can be”. He said with hard work and determination anyone in the group had a good chance of becoming a Tall Black or Tall Fern.

Alonzo Burton received the young male player of the year award after outstanding performances for the HBS Bank Hawkes and the Under 23 Hawkes Bay team. He was recently selected in NZ Breakers development team.

Kimi Poi was recognised as the young female player of the year following outstand performances at the Under 17 Nationals. Kimi was recently appointed by Basketball New Zealand as “Recognised Athlete”. Recognised athletes will make up our national and development age group teams.
