Junior Hoops Programme Details

The Junior Hoops activities are designed to assist players to develop their basketball game in a fun setting under expert guidance.

Basketball Hawke’s Bay’s Development Coaches will run weekly  basketball sessions in Flaxmere, Havelock North, Hastings and Napier for primary and Intermediate school pupils.

Our goal is to give kids the opportunity to develop and refine their basketball skills in a positive, fun and well-organised learning environment. The programs are geared toward fundamental development in the following areas: shooting, passing, dribbling, defence, rebounding, team play, and more.

The sessions use a unique combination of competition, games and instruction to help participants master the fundamentals of basketball. The coaches break down every session into two leagues to match players with their appropriate level of skill. Players will go through different stations including; shooting fundamentals, offensive moves, the lost art of passing, science of footwork, shell, help and recover , the screening game, rebounding, blocking out & pitching out, one-on-one moves facing the basket, game conditioning, and dribbling drills.

Each and every participant gets the individual coaching they need to develop.

The programme assists the players to gain an improved positive attitude, a greater appreciation for good moral values, and a better understanding of the keys that will lead to their own success. The sport is basketball, but the most important element is the children's future development
