Pies rolling along in the 18’s
The Pies have not had much to cheer about in the Men’s grades this year but at least the Under 18’s are continuing their push for that elusive 2012 Shingleback Premiership Cup.
Wednesday night was win number 12 on the trot with a comfortable 49 point win over the South boys. Had the Central lads kicked with more accuracy (7-14) the win would have been even more emphatic. With the talent on the park 7-14 is a pretty poor return and such inaccuracy has been known to cost teams premierships in the past so Coach Alex Johnson will be keen to see the forwards finish off better.
Jack Roberts continues to rake up the possessions and was again voted best by the Club. Along with South’s Riley Schorn these two may well fight out the converted U/18 Medallist for 2012. Second best was Jake Gepp (2 goals), following in the BP’s were Sean Power, Riley Pearce, Mason Hunt and Jason Masclet. No details were submitted to Sportingpulse by SFC.
In the late game West kicked 16 goals to defeat North’s. Heath Harris led the way with BOG honours (4 goals) whilst Hagen Grose bobbed up with 3 goals and Colin O’Donnell 2 goals. Singles to Luke Jones, Dakoda Hocking, Judd Carpenter, Harrison Dally, Cohen Pettitt, Liam King and Rylie McInnes rounded a comprehensive performance for the Robins.
Importantly the experienced West players Harris, Cohen Pettitt, Liam King , Grose, McInnes are figuring in the best players each week. Add the inclusion of talented junior Jayden White to their mix and they have a core of players more than capable of taking it up to the Pies in September...well late August! (as the GF is 29th August)
For North’s it’s pretty much game, set and match! With their season on the line Coaches Codie Howard and Justin Hoskins were hopeful of a bold showing but alas West were too polished and ran away with the game in the first half, before a bit of late niggle, just on half time, sparked the young Bulldogs into action in the 3rd term. West however continued on their merry way in the final term and by the end it was how far!!
Hoskins, whilst disappointed, was full of praise for the efforts of Zac Borlace (pictured), Chad Spangler, Keenan Ellis & Tom Rogers who fought hard all night.
Howard and Hoskins have been excellent committed Coaches and the senior North players have rotating every week helping out but season 2012 will just have to go down as the year the stars did not align. Throw missing juniors Tiziani, Barraclough & Simmons plus the injured Martin into the mix and a place in the finals may well have been feasible.
So it’s a 3 horse race with Centrals ( Black Caviar) the favourite...but they will need to keep the whips cracking all the way to the finishing post ...as West are coming & fast!!
