Wollongong Roller Hawks Defend Championship Title This Weekend

Everyone will be sitting on the edge of their seat as the top four wheelchair basketball teams in Australia take the court at the NWBL Finals from Friday 15 to Sunday 17 June at Shellharbour City Stadium, Croome Rd, Albion Park.

Local heroes and reigning 2011 Champions, the Wollongong Roller Hawks are excited that the battle for 2012 Championship will be in their home town. The Roller Hawks are anticipating record crowds to come and support the local team. The Wollongong Roller Hawks were the under-dog team in 2011 however they emerged victorious, winning the Finals in a close match against Perth Wheelcats. This season, the Wollongong Roller Hawks have been performing strongly all year, with an almost undefeated record, winning over 90% of their games this season.

“It was a fantastic experience to win the 2011 NWBL Championship Title. The Wollongong Roller Hawks performed at their best during the 2011 Grand Finals and we are expecting a repeat performance at the Grand Finals this Sunday. The Roller Hawks will defend our Championship title at all costs.”

“We are thrilled to be playing for our home crowd and very proud to showcase Shellharbour and Wollongong at this premiere event.” Pablo Jimenez, Roller Hawks Team Manager

This is the last NWBL event before the London 2012 Paralympics. This is a fantastic opportunity to come and support our elite athletes before they head off to compete for Australia. Australia currently holds the top spot internationally and our world famous players are coming from all over the country to compete in Wollongong. The Finals will surely give sports fans a close up opportunity to see the world’s best players in action before the 2012 London Paralympics.
