After a hard fought 50-64 win on game 1, the Spinning Bullets turned it on in game 2 to cruise to a 75-45 win and put a two game break between themselves and fourth place.

For the visitors it was young gun, Tom O’Neil-Thorne playing his best games for the season averaging 23.5 points per game to finish as the highest scorer in the series but most importantly for the Spinning Bullets he did it at 55% or above on both days. O’Neil-Thorne has a good perimeter game but it was never really tested against Victoria, able to work off the back of teammates Bailey Rowland and Matthew McShane to get himself into good scoring positions.

Triple-A (Agustin Alejos-Alonso) who is usually the main focal point in the QLD offence was happy to play the role of distributor, finishing with a series high 16 assists over the two games in limited game time.

For the Victorians, Daniel Del Toso who is most comfortable in and around the keyway was put to the test, forced to shoot from a little deeper thanks to some tough Brisbane defence but still managed 16 and 15 points in each respective game.

Interestingly, Victoria turned the ball over far less than Brisbane in the two game series (22 compared to QLD’s 27) but was out rebounded significantly on both days. Victoria were going into season 2013 a little undersized and to win games of basketball you need to get your hands on the ball. Being outrebounded by 21 over the two days is going to make winning games tough, especially when Brisbane were able to get their hands on 10 offensive rebounds in game one when it was in the balance.

Victoria will again be tested in round 4 with a two game series against 2012 Champions the Wollongong Rollerhawks. Brisbane have a two game series against the Sydney Uni Wheelkings in round four and they can expect a tough contest  from them as Sydney will be desperate to stay in touch with the top four.
