Q1. How did you discover Aussie Rules
When I lived in Arizona, I was pretty athletic and friends
with a player from the Arizona Hawks. He told me he was interested in forming a
women’s team and asked if I was interested in playing. I really had never heard
about Australian football, but right after he mentioned tackling, I signed up.
Q2. How did you discover women actually played the game and
got involved
Since the team I joined was new, the question was more who
could I get to join? This question was actually easier to answer. Getting women
involved became more of a search to find athletic women open to playing
something completely new. This process was surprisingly speedy, and the rest
was history.
Q3. Describe to me your first game, how did you feel before,
during and afterwards.
My first game was at the US National tournament and I felt
like a deer in headlights. Up until that point, we never scrimmaged or really
even tackled… let’s say that I got called for throwing the ball a few times.
Q4. (If you have ever kicked a goal) - How did you feel when
you kicked your first goal?
I felt insanely relieved after I kicked my first goal. I was
a full forward and I felt that my team worked so hard to get the ball to me and
I owed them six points…it was great!
Q5. What do you love about the game
Where do I start?!? I love my team! I have never met a
better group of talented players both on and off the field. Playing this sport
in New York allows for a great community to be formed both locally and
nationwide… and I love tackling!
Q6. What do you hope to achieve personally on the tour?
I am hoping that this tour gives me a different perspective
on how the sport should be played and opens the door for me to step up my game.
Q7. How well do you think the US team is going to go?
Regardless of how we end up, our level of play will
exponentially increase. In the end, we can bring what we learned on this tour
to our home teams. It will be an amazing National tournament!
Q8. Most US Footy is played 9-12 a side, do you think the
transition to full sized fields and 18 a side football will be a big shift for
the team to adjust to?
Playing 9-12 a side requires us to run more and keep up our
conditioning. Having more players on the field will definitely be an
adjustment, but the level of endurance that we have grown accustomed to will
allow for more options.
