This will be the last round before the National Championships in Perth. Good Luck ladies!
Last Friday saw the last Friday night match of the season being played. So Saturday will see the first match at the glorious hour of 8:30am (i think the cows may have to be milked around this time) where UNSW-Easts host the Sydney University Bombers at pictursque Village Green Oval. The Stingrays have experienced mixed fortunes and look forward to putting the first win for the season whilst the Sydney University Bombers enjoyed the North Ryde experience experimenting with players in different positions. Highlight being centre Emma Yuen doing the rucking. They'll be looking forward to continue putting their claims for a finals position. Back in round 2, Sydney Uni won by 60 points and both sides would be looking forward to improvement since then. Please set your alarm clocks!
The head to head record was Sydney University 19 wins, Easts 5 wins
Macquarie University host Newtown at Mahoney Oval, 10am in the development game. Mac Uni were really impressive in the wet at University Oval.
The 12pm game sees St George take on Wests. Wests had a comfortable 108 point win against Easts in damp conditions and will look forward to getting their season back on track after an early hiccup. The progress of their centers should be the key to winning the match with Talei Owen playing some of her best football for some time. St George had mixed fortunes running close to the Bondi Shamrocks until 3/4 time. If they can manage to have a full bench available, they should give the Wolves a run for their money if we look at how they performed against Newtown. St George would have been pleased to see their 2008 Best and Fairest Player Erin Burns back on the field as she racked up plenty of possessions against the Shamrocks.
The head to head record is Wests 5 wins, St George yet to win.
The 2pm game of the round sees the 4th placed Shamrocks hosting 2nd placed Balmain. It's plainly evident that the Dockers normal style of footy is more suited to the dry than the wet with their emphasis on the handball for support play. The Dockers will be keen to right their shock loss to the Shamrocks in week 3, whilst the Shamrocks will be keen to continue their run of good fortune having won 3 in a row. Keys to the game will be the Dockers availability to use their wingers effectively in Alison Parkin (right wing) and Karla Spilarewicz (left wing). Back in Rd 3, the Shamrocks had effecitvely neutrilized Karla by forcing her to play as a rover/centre/ruck-rover. The Shamrocks will be looking to accurate kicking to their forwards as a key agenda item.
The head to head record is Shamrocks 1 win, Balmain yet to win.
Back to the quirks of the draw, Newtown have yet to take on UNSW-Easts, Bondi has yet to take on Sydney University, Balmain yet to take on Mac Uni in the development games. St George and Wests would have played everyone once.
Let's hope for drier weather this weekend. All those involved in the Balmain and Newtown match are quite happy never to see a raindrop until after the Grand Final!
