Village Green was the setting for football action at Saturday Night Football. In keeping with the whole Easts vs Wests theme, it was football between the two clubs at both mens and women’s teams. In the first quarter, Easts looked very positive in attack and possession. They had enough forward 50m entries but were unable to put points on the scoreboard whilst Wests maximised their possession to led at quarter time 2.4.16 to 0.0.0
Fortified by some salmon dip, brie cheese and Ritz biscuits (thanks Easts), the correspondent observed Easts outscoring Wests in the second quarter despite Wests having more possession. The half-time score was 3.5.23 to 1.2.8. The gravity of the situation must have led to Wests to realise that Easts were a genuine threat and Wests hit the 3rd quarter hard to put on six goals to one. The third quarter score was 9.9.63 to 2.2.14.
In the final quarter it was basically a statistical draw as both sides scored two goals each. Wests had won but if one removed the third quarter, Easts were very very competitive on the night. On a weekend of great football across all three games, it showed that all clubs are competitive and have the ability to win once they start working as a team unit. The final score was Wests 11.13.79 to Easts 4.2.26
Best on ground in my humble opinion was Trish Muller (Wests).
