Yesterday some of the SWAFL footballers played against the NSW Gaelic Athletics Association women's team at Mahoney Park. With limited preparation on the rules and many footballers a littlle bit dusty since the Grand Final, the team bonded very quickly to play the GAA. Coached by premiership coach Jason King (Wests) the team was representative of SWAFL with all clubs represented in the team.
In contrast to the limited preparation the GAA had come straight from the national championships in Adelaide and was obviously a bit more familiar with the round ball format. The team fought well with plenty of possession but was outclassed on the day 49-14. Highlight of the day was the 4th quarter goal by Margarita Obien (Wests) due to some great teamwork. We hope this will become an annual event but probably holding the game closer to the grand final will assist the team in showing a better performance next year. Congraulations to the NSW GAA!
