9AM - 12PM NSW State Training Conducted by Jason King, State Coach. We had 24 attendees. As all spots are still open, I encourage all SWAFL players to attend training and put your self-forward for selection. At least you get to know a few new drills.
12:15PM Newtown Breakaways vs Bondi Shamrocks
For the first hit out of 2009 the Breakaways fielded a team that included a few new players to SWAFL plus some new acquisitions whilst in their second ever match the Shamrocks fielded a few new players ever to Aussie Rules. The Breakaways hiit the lead early. In the second half, the Shamrocks came back to give a contest but Breakaways won by about 3 points.
1PM Sydney University Bombers vs Newtown Breakaways
Going back to back would be tough for the Breakaways and so it proved as an enthusiastic and young Sydney University played tremendously to record a victory over last year's 3rd place team. Sydney University coming off a win against Belconnen, looks a serious premiership contender in 2009.
1:45pm Bondi Shamrocks vs Sydney University Bombers
The rejuvenated Bondi Shamrocks recorded a victory over Sydney University but both sides were willing in the ground contests.
Conclusion: All three sides had a victory so each side can take away something from the day. However all coaches know that more improvement is required with each team to get them game ready for Round 1, which starts in 2 wks time. SWAFL takes a break over Easter, so see you soon!
