The team of the decade announced by SWAFL Treasurer and ex-President Karen James Lawson consisted of:
Coach: Lachlan Worthy (Sydney University Coach 2000-2005, 2007), NSW Coach (2000-2002)
Lachie has been involved in coaching two premierships but more importantly encouraged the growth of players and the game. It's been see that he has coached 7 players who have become league coaches and 17 of the 22 players named either at club or state level.
Players: Gianna Abbonzio, Vicki Keys, Cazz Epstein, Jemma Still, Krysten Winkley, Michaela Ekman (vc), Kerry Taylor, Natasha Devlin, Alison Parkin, Cynthia Dufaut, Stephanie Foster (captain), Talei Owen, Natalie Morgan, Marie Keating, Rebecca Burridge, Tarsha Gale, Natalie Redford, Emma Yuen, Kath Kobzan, Heather Noblett, Kim Rielly, Shelley Bates, Melinda Hyland and Yvette Andrews.
Criteria: Being an exceptional player, how good was that player at their peak and the duration of the peak, playing for at least three seasons. Did they also represent NSW or ADF at the national championships or being the best and fairest in the league or were they an All Australian. Whilst not essential criteria it guided our thinking.
Those who missed out whilst unlucky to be missed out were many and worthy and no doubt you will be included in your own club's decade of celebrations.
An awesome team indeed, well done for being part of a great league.
Thanks to the selectors were (coach of the decade): Nat Morgan, Tarsha Gale, Michaela Ekman, Gianna Abbonizio and Alyssa Steweart. and (team of the decade): Lachlan Worthy, Kellie Nolan, Tracey Kick, Jason King, Sarah Groube. Karen James chaired both selection panels.
