The commencement of the 2010 SWAFL Premiership Season was eagerly awaited by many after a long summer of preseason training. With all the games being held at Mahoney, it was an opportunity for clubs to display their summer training and observe the other clubs in the competition's progress.
Match 1 at 9am saw Bondi Shamrocks take on the new side Macquarie University Warriors. Bondi fielding X number of rookies played against Macquarie University Warriors who were almost all complete rookies.
Match 2 at 11am saw Southern Power take on the UNSW-Easts Stingrays. This was another match with many rookies on both sides.
Match 3 saw the new side Wollongong Saints take on Sydney University. The Saints starting the training comparatively late to the other clubs and fielding a team of completely new rookies to SWAFL was playing against the well experienced Sydney University side. The saying goes "You just can't buy experience" and the result showed.
The Match of the Round was against Grand Finalist clubs Wests and Newtown. However the two teams had massively changed during the off-season with Newtown in a rebuilding phase and Wests losing their ruck women Georgia Woodyard who is moving back to Brisbane.
