NEW POINT GUARD FOR THE MAGIC MEN

Mandurah Magic has secured a major signing during the off season by acquiring point guard Daniel Thomas.

Thomas makes his way south from Geraldton, where he played for the Buccaneers in the SBL. Thomas will fill the role of starting point guard in the team, which was vacated with the departure of Taylor Land to Rockingham.

Thomas brings a wealth of experience to Mandurah, after spending some time playing professionally in Croatia and Denmark, as well as the University of Pittsburgh Bradford in the USA.

“I was moving back to Perth from Geraldton and wanted to play for a team that could push for a championship and in a place where love for the game of basketball was valued,” Thomas said.

“Mandurah have improved greatly over the past few years and I hope that I can give them that extra to push them to the next level.”

Thomas averaged over 18 points per game last season for Geraldton, and tallied a 2013 season high 40 points in a game against Perth. Thomas was also selected to play in the 2013 SBL All Star game.

Magic coach Jason Chalk has high hopes for Thomas and what he can bring to the club.

“Daniel is a great acquisition for the club as far as leadership and talent goes,” Chalk said.

“I consider him to be one of the best players in the league and have always held him in high regard.”

“He has been sensational in his leadership and on court abilities and I am looking forward to him leading this team on the court this year,” Chalk added.

Despite leaving behind a close knit Buccaneers team, Thomas is excited at what lies ahead this season in Mandurah.

“The Magic have been amazing so far. It was hard to leave the Buccs who are a very family oriented team, but to find another team that is very similar is exciting,” Thomas said.

“The Magic have made me feel apart of their family already and it is such a good feeling to know that you are wanted by a club like them,” he added.
