Rockets Mentor Again

Rockhampton Basketball Incorporated has pleasure in announcing that National Championship winning coach, Neal Tweedy will again lead the Stadium Nightclub Rockets for the upcoming 2009 season.  This will be the 11th season that Neal has been at the helm of Rockets.

RBI Operations Manager, Jamie Boon, said, “The appointment of Neal was paramount in our club’s attempt to defend its Queensland and National Titles.  With 10 seasons under his belt, numerous finals appearances and several welcome additions to the clubroom’s trophy cabinet Neal was without question the most appropriate person for our club”.

“As an organisation we recognise that it would have been quite easy for Neal to retire after winning the National Championship however his commitment and dedication to not only our program, but Rockhampton Basketball in general is, and has always been unwavering.  As a local junior who came through the Rockets program at the same time as Darren Richardson, prior to stepping into coaching, it is pleasing to think that Neal has been able to assist in building this program to where it is today – it certainly hasn’t been an overnight success”.

“With step one out of the way the club will now move onto the playing roster with negotiations already underway with several players, in a perfect world it would be great to think that we could just simply bring everybody back from the Championship wining team however eligibility issues and the retirement of Darren Richardson and QABL Finals MVP, Ben Thompson will present us with many challenges.

“We are confident that Neal and his yet to be determined coaching staff will put together the right formula on court, while our off court support from our fantastic sponsors, fanatical supporters, coupled with the best home court venue, gives us tremendous enthusiasm when looking towards 2009”.

Rockets Head Coach, Neal Tweedy stated, “I am genuinely excited by the challenges that lay ahead for our organisation. We will be rebuilding the team to a certain extent and we will present many opportunities to our younger guys in the months ahead while also ensuring that we identify and recruit the right people to assist us in providing our fans, sponsors and corporate partners with a quality outfit that does the city of Rockhampton proud again”.
