Hosts Announced for 2013 State Championships

Northside Wizards Basketball (Brisbane), Ipswich Basketball, Brisbane Basketball, Rockhampton Basketball, Cairns Basketball and Gold Coast City Regional Basketball have been selected as the host associations, with each to host several hundred junior basketball athletes during multi-day tournaments.

Basketball Queensland Chief Executive Officer Graham Burns said the series of events saw the cream of the crop from Queensland’s basketball associations compete for the title of State Champion, and was one of the highlights on the calendar for basketball in Queensland.

“The State Championships series is our biggest annual event - in 2012 we saw around 2,000 athletes compete, in addition to several hundred referees and officials, coaches, team managers and administrators, not to mention spectators and family members, many of whom travelled for the tournaments.

“Each State Championship event always attracts a great deal of interest, as you get to see the full spectrum over the weeks – with the Under 12s competing in their first major tournament, right through to the Under 16s and Under 18s who are just starting to peak and many showing their potential as current or future Queensland and Australian representative athletes.

“The State Championships is the highlight event for many athletes and always involves a lot of preparation and a good dose of friendly rivalry between associations, and offers a chance for friendships to be forged between players from across the state,” Mr Burns said.
